The Twilight Wife (ARC) | Book Review

Author: A.J. Banner

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Publication Date: December 27, 2016

Publisher: Touchstone

Summary:

From bestselling author A.J. Banner comes a dazzling new novel of psychological suspense in the vein of S.J. Watson’s Before I Go to Sleep and Mary Kubica’s The Good Girl that questions just how much we can trust the people around us.

Thirty-four-year-old marine biologist Kyra Winthrop remembers nothing about the diving accident that left her with a complex form of memory loss. With only brief flashes of the last few years of her life, her world has narrowed to a few close friendships on the island where she lives with her devoted husband, Jacob.

But all is not what it seems. Kyra begins to have visions—or are they memories?—of a rocky marriage, broken promises, and cryptic relationships with the island residents, whom she believes to be her friends.

As Kyra races to uncover her past, the truth becomes a terrifying nightmare. A twisty, immersive thriller, The Twilight Wife will keep readers enthralled through the final, shocking twist.

Review:

Thank you so much to Simon & Schuster and Touchstone Publishing for sending me a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Full of deception and suspense, this quick read is perfect for fans of thriller suspense novels.

I will say there are some unanswered questions, a few loose ends, but if you aren’t looking for perfection, then this is an excellent choice. The suspense was unreal, the feeling of deceit, but not being sure which way to turn, who to blame. Is Kyra really losing her mind?

I felt immersed with Kyra, the main character, in a mysterious world which should have felt so familiar-her home, her life, her husband – all a blur of confusion after her deep sea diving accident.

This all plays well into the creepiness of the story. Her “friends” have secrets too and Kyra wonders about their relationships, especially between Jacob and his long-time friend, Nancy. Kyra has flash memories of another man… but who could he be?

Full of unpredictable twists and turns, A.J. Banner has a way of catching her audience, wanting us to finish the book as soon as we open it. The suspense will leave you to guess, as to what is the mystery, and will Kyra really get her memory back?
