Greg Janera, twenty-four, is a recent college graduate living in the Center City district of Philadelphia. A down-to-earth software engineer, sports fan and dog owner, he is at a crossroads in his current three-year relationship with Heather Damon. An event planner with a troubled childhood, Heather, twenty-nine, has worked hard to make a good life for herself. She is now ready to get married and start a family. Greg, however, is unsure if their relationship is strong enough to continue with a deeper commitment or if it should end.

One summer day at beautiful Rittenhouse Square, Greg has a chance encounter with public relations associate Kate Shuster. Kate, twenty-five, is endearing with a goodhearted nature and friendly personality. The two are instantly drawn to each other, captivated by an undeniable chemistry and connection. This sudden clarity gives Greg the determination he needs to let Heather know where they stand-when an unexpected revelation changes the course of all of their lives. Greg must choose between two types of love; will he follow his head or his heart in making a decision that will define the rest of his life?

“His Kate” weaves a tender yet emotional and passionate tale about the raw power of unconditional love. What will be the fate for Greg, Kate and Heather? How will they each choose to live their lives as one life changing event affects them all?

What can I say, I am a sucker when it comes to romance novels. No matter how many times I tell myself that I don’t like them, they always seem to wrap around my heart and destroy me. Which is exactly what this novel has done to me.

Full of raw emotion and power, His Kate will bring you to the verge of tears and have you rooting for the couple right until the very end. Without giving away to much, I can surely say that I will be suggesting this book to many of my friends and family members who are fans of these types of novels as well.

The novel starts off with the prologue, which is played out to be that there has been a death and the other characters are mourning the loss. Although we are given little information who it is regarding, it snatched my attention as I had to continue reading in order to get the full story. Opening chapters start with the  introduction of each individual character, so the reader is able to get a better understanding of who they are and what part they play in the storyline.

Out of all the characters within this novel, I feel that I can relate most to Kate in the sense that she is self-motivated, and a book lover much like myself.

She was known to spend hours looking at all the different types of books, everything from women’s fiction, classics, mysteries, drama and romance to history and biographies.

If this is not the perfect definition of me every time I approach and enter a bookstore, I don’t know what is.

As well, which is something I have not seen done in other novels that I have read, Kate had a mood ring, which helps tell the mood not only of her but also of the setting in which she is placed. I enjoyed how at the back of the book, the author had put a chart explaining all of the colours and what do they mean. It was interesting to be able to tell a person mood swings based off of the colour of the ring.

Anywho, the novel takes place over a 5 year period, which can get a bit confusing but you are able to work it out with the job changes and time lapses that occur. As well, the changes of how the characters feel towards each other and how often they engage in conversations with one another is another clue as to how much time has passed between them.

The main male lead, Greg, is faced with a love triangle between his ex-girlfriend and a new found love. The only way to find out what happens is to pick up this book and start reading. As Kate puts it…

Books served as an escape, from both life and reality.

For those who are not only fans of romance novels, but also real-life situations and a novel that you can relate to, His Kate should definitely be a part of your next book shopping trip. I know for a fact that this novel will change you and make you reflect on not only your life, but also the people that you meet around you.

Until Next Time
